Some sites want anyone and everyone to be able to become a Registered User.  Some sites do not want this feature and prefer to set up Registered Users on an exclusive basis.

loginformBy default the Login Form for Joomla looks like this ->

It has the prompts Create an account, Forgot Username? and Forgot your password? displayed at the bottom of the form.

With Create an account as an option, the site visitor can then fill out a form and Register for the site.

If you do not want this to be an option, you need to change the Global Configuration settings for the Users Manager. You can get to this screen in two ways.

Pull down Users -> User Manager and click on the Options optionsbutton button in the action items across the top.

OR

Go into System -> Global Configuration and select Users Manager from the list of Components on the left.

To Turn off the Create an account prompt in the Login Form select No next to Allow User Registration.

You will see a number of other options available here for the Login Form if you have Allow User Registrations set to Yes.

Module Type Login Settings

When you create or edit the Login Form Module in Module Manager, there are other ways of modifying the Login Form, such as:

Pre-Text: You can have text above the Login Form, for things such as instructions or requirements.

Post-text: You can have text below the Login Form, for things such as instructions or requirements.

Login Redirection Page: Once some one logs into the site on the Front End, you can automatically redirect them to a specified page.

Logout Redirection Page: Once some one logs out of the site on the Front End, you can automatically redirect them to a specified page.

Show Greeting: Once they log in you can choose to have a welcom gretting displayed.

Show Name/Username: You can decide whether you want to display their Registered Name or their Registered Username is you so wish.

Encrypt Login Form: If you have SSL setup for your site, you can have the login form information be encrypted.

Display Labels: You can choose to have the icons for the User Name and Password text boxes, or you can choose to show text instead.
