menuitemtype-contactsContacts are established under Components -> Contacts. joom3 has a section for creating Contacts and Contact Categories. They are created and defined within the Administrative side of that Component, but to create a web page for your site, you need to create a Menu Item.

The options for Menu Item Types are:

List all Contact Categories: If you had an web site with an extensive list of Contacts, say your Sales Team members, Tech Support members, Human Resources, Administration, etc., you might want to put these Contacts into Categories for users to find the corrent person to contact.  This Menu Item Type would create a list of the Categories, then users could click on the Category to get to a page with all the Contacts in that Category.

List Contacts in a Category: You might want to go directly to a certain Category and list the Contacts.  The user could then click on the singe Contact to get the information they need.

Single Contact:  If you just want to create a Contact Form for your website, this would be what you would use.

Featured Contacts:  There may be a need for certain Contacts to fall under the Featured description - an example would be a website for a club that has someone in cahrge of a certain event.

Advanced Options

When you select one of the above options as your Menu Item Type, Joomla then makes the Advanced Options tab available for modifiying the options for just that type of menu item.  You will see the pulldown menus using the term Use Global - this means that the default is to use the settings from the Global Configuration for the Contacts Component.  You can override these Global settings for the individual Menu Item Type.

Categories Options: you can turn on/off the description for the Top Level Category, whether sub-categories will show, whether empty categories will show, and if you are going to indicate the number of Contacts in the Category.

Category Options: Settings for the individual Category, such as Title, Description, Image, Subcategories, etc.

List Layouts: When you create the Contacts in the Contacts component, there are text boxes for information such as email address, phone, etc.  Here is where you can set if this information will be available for this Contact Menu Item when it is displayed in a List. As an example, you may want the List to show only the Name and the email address, but show additional details about that Contact.

Contact Display Layouts: When you create the Contacts in the Contacts component, there are text boxes for information such as email address, phone, etc.  Here is where you can set if this information will be available for this Contact Menu Item when it is displayed as an Individual Contact.

Mail Options: If you wish to have website users be able to send an email to the Contact through a form on the site, this is where you would enable that feature. You can choose to have the form send a copy to the email address provided by the website user. You can also add additional filters such as banned email addresses, banned subject lines and banned words in the content. Additionaly, you can choose to have a different web page appear once the sender has submitted the form.

Integration Options: You may choose to have an RSS Feed Link appear.

Metadata Options: You may add information for <meta> description and keyword tags for the web pages, and instruct web search engine robots not to index this web page. If your site is set up with a Security Certificate (https://) you can enable it for this individual page.
