Banners are a way to place advertisements on your website. This Component of Joomla allows you to track clicks and impressions. You can categorize your banners by Category and or the clients name. You can use these Banners to place custom code from your client or simply place an image or an image combined with HTML and/or JavaScript.

The term Impressions refers to the number of times the banner has been displayed. The term Click-through refers to the number of times a visitor has clicked on the ad to get to the advertiser's website.

You could simply use a Module to place an advertisement, but combining the Module with the Banner component allows you to organize banners and track their effectiveness.

Your client may simply provide you with a .jpg, .gif or .png image to place on your site and you will set it up to link to their website.  Banners can also have actual text combined with images or even have flash included.
