Global Configurations for articles Shared Option tab

The Shared Options tab in the Article Manager Options allows you to globally set the Category Order, Article Order, what date to use for ordering, if you want Pagination and the Pagination Results. These settings apply for Shared Options in List, Blog and Featured unless they are changed by the menu settings.

As always, these settings can be overridden in the individual Article, individual Category or the Menu Item.

Category Order: If you have a list of Categories, this will determine what order they are shown.  Your choices are:

  • No Order: they are put in as you entered them - last one first
  • Title Alphabetical: self-explanatory
  • Title Reverse Alphabetical: self-explanatory
  • Category Manager Order: The order of the list can be set by physically rearranging the Categories in the Category Manager.

Article Order: You have a few more options for how you want the list of Articles within a Category displayed. This also determines how full articles are displayed.

  • Most Recent First: The most recently created article is at the top of the list, and the rest are shown descending by creation date.
  • Oldest First: The oldest created article is at the top of the list, and the rest are shown descending by creation date, oldest to newest.
  • Title Alphabetical: self-explanatory
  • Title Reverse Alphabetical: self-explanatory
  • Author Alphabetical: self-explanatory
  • Author Reverse Alphabetical: self-explanatory
  • Most Hits: The most popular article is at the top of the list, the rest are descending by the number of hits, more hits to less.
  • Least Hits: The least popular article is at the top of the list, the rest are descending by the number of hits, fewer hits to more.
  • Ordering: The Articles are listed by how they are physically arranged in the list of Articles for that Category.

Note: To physically arrange Articles or Categories for your lists, go int to screen with the list, click on the double arrow symbol at the top left of the list. The little light grey boxes will become black. You can slide them up or down by grabbing them at the little black boxes - your cursor will turn into a four pointed arrow.

It is helpful to filter the Article list by Selecting the Category they are in with the Filter selection on the left. That way you are only sorting the Articles against the ones that will show up on the list.

Pagination: If you have long articles that won;t fit on the page, this will enter the Pagination at the end of the Article. It will look like Start Prev 1 2 3 Next End. This is good for navigation.

Pagination Results: This is something like Page 4 of 10.

Note: The Pagination settings can be affected by the Content - Pagebreak plugin.  If this plug-in is enabled, some of its settings will override the Pagination.
