dropdown-globalconfigThe Global Configuration section of your Joomla 3 website contains many important settings for your Joomla site. This section contains site information and default settings for the components installed on your site.

You can get to Global Configuration by going to the top bar and clicking on System, or on the Control Panel or Dashboard select Global Configuration, with the little gear symbol,  from the list on the Control Panel screen.

The Global Configuration section contains the system wide information and default settings for your site. 

When you first launch and configure your Joomla website the installation walks you through several screens where you put in information about Joomla site and associated database. Much of this information that you filled in is now present in the Global Configuration section.

System wide settings in Global Configuration

There are several tabs on the main Global Configuration screen that allow you to change settings for your site. These settings include things like the site name, SEO settings, cache settings, server and hosting settings, permissions and text filters for the various users on your site.

To get information on any item within the Global Configuration screens, hover over the item. An information balloon will pop up with a description of that item. 


SITE TAB

This tab has the Site Settings, Metadata Settings, SEO Settings and Cookie Settings.

This tab has Server Settings, Location Settings, FTP Settings, Database Settings and Mail Settings.

Component Menu

The Global Configuration has a list of Components down the left side. You can click on the name of the component and change the global settings for that individual Component. Many times when you are in the Component itself, there will be an Options button with a little gear symbol.  Click on the Options button will take you to the Global Configuration for that individual Component.
